I've always wanted to tour around the UK but without being signed to an artist management company, the legality of that is quite complex because for an Australian like myself, to work in the UK, you need to be employed somewhere and even then, you're supposed to only work for that employer and that empoyer can sponsor you to work in the UK. International artists that are signed to an Artist management company in the UK don't have this problem, since the company could sponsor them as an employee. There are also talent visa for people who are famous but for an up and coming talent like myself, it's difficult since to get the attention of an artist management company in the UK, when you're not there.
Anyway, the good news is that I just got my visa a few weeks ago just before my 31st birthday and right now I'm in the airport and on my way to London to network and setup my own mini tour in the UK. I still have my studio Current Sound in Adelaide so I'll be flying back and forth from the studio and London.
Coming soon, DJ Tom Watson and The Gordon Brothers, writers behind, Usher, David Guetta, Diplo, Rihanna and many more, have teamed up again for a new song called Joy Ride. The song originally started DJ Tom Watson's remix of an unreleased song by The Gordon Brother's Joy Ride but the Gordon Brothers will re-sing the song a little differently to DJ Tom Watson's new music and create a new version.
In December last year I came across a pre-release of Look at You by The Gordon Brothers on the ZipDJ promo pool. After hearing the hook, I knew instantly that I wanted to make a remix of the song and pictured the entire remix in my head. I contacted manager of The Gordon Brothers and asked for the stems. I did most of the remix in only a few days over Christmas, then my studio, Current Sound was super busy after the Christmas break. Once things had gotten less crazy in the studio, I went back to the track and added more Trap style elements to the remix to create a style of Melbourne Bounce that had a bit more of a Trap and Urban feel to it.
I pitched the remix to the manager and she and The Gordon Brother really liked the remix. What I didn't know when I started working on the remix was that The Gordon Brothers were previously signed to Usher's label as part of the group "One Chance" and have written for Usher, David Guetta, Diplo, Rihanna and many other big name artists. All I knew at the time was that the hook for Look at You was really strong. After chatting with the manager of The Gordon Brothers, we've decided to work together on some original songs and more remixes which will be coming out officially near the end of 2015.
